Summary

Section 1: Breast Cancer, Treatment, and Aftercare

Breast Cancer, Treatment, and Aftercare addresses the risk factors of breast cancer in young African American women. This section details the various types of breast cancer and treatment options and includes options for care after completing active treatment.

Section 2: Breast Cancer Risk and Your Family

Breast Cancer Risk and Your Family provides information regarding family history of breast cancer, your risks for inheriting genes that increase your risk for breast cancer, genetic counseling and testing. This section describes the actions that you can take if you discover that you have a family history of cancer and/or you have an inherited breast cancer gene mutation.

Section 3: Emotional Health and Wellness

The Emotional Health and Wellness section describes some of the feelings that you may experience during diagnosis and treatment. This section shares information on and how to cope with depression, anxiety and panic, anger, survivor guilt, self-blame, and “chemo” brain.

Section 4: Living With Breast Cancer: Family, Friends and Workplace Issues

Living With Breast Cancer: Family, Friends, and Workplace Issues describes how to get emotional and practical support from your friends and family.

Section 5: Premature Menopause and Breast Cancer

This section provides information to help you understand what is menopause, why young women in treatment for breast cancer go through sudden menopause, and how to deal with the impact of menopause on your body.

Section 6: Health and Beauty

The Health and Beauty section emphasizes the importance of physical activity and nutrition during treatment and as a survivor. This section discusses feelings that you may have regarding body image, hair loss, changes in hair texture, and the use of wigs and scarves following treatment.

Section 7: Breast Cancer, Sexuality, and Dating

Breast Cancer, Sexuality, and Dating focuses on women’s sexual relationships and function after breast cancer. The section shares information on how cancer treatments may interfere with enjoying sex. We provide strategies on how to cope with loss of sexual desire and pain during sexual intercourse, and how to enhance your sex life and communication after cancer treatment.

 

Section 8: Fertility, Pregnancy, and Motherhood After Breast Cancer

This section offers information on fertility after cancer, the safety of pregnancy, and the health of children born to women after their breast cancer.
